BackgroundI am a Mother of three. I moved to Wallingford in 2011. Since then I have been involved with several organizations within the community including Cub Scouts, PTO, Wallingford Works Wonders, The Wallingford Hawks and the Coalition for a Better Wallingford. If elected this would be my second term on the Board of Education.
I have a masters degree from Stony Brook University in Public Policy and a Bachelors degree in Comparative Religious Studies with an emphasis on English and Philosophy from Ferrum College. Prior to moving to Wallingford I was the Director on Non-Residential Services for Brighter Tomorrows, a long island based domestic violence organization. I also helped to co-found the Long Island Language Advocates Coalition. |
Reasons for RunningAs a parent, a Wallingford resident and tax payer, I have a vested interest in the policies and decisions made by the Board of Education. It is my firm belief that one of the most important things we can do as a society is educate our youth.
Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." I whole heartedly agree with him. Societies in which the majority of the population has received excellent education are less violent, more economically successful and have less disparity. |
Core Beliefs“Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.”
― Margaret Mead Education is about teaching students how to use all of the information available to them to formulate their own opinions, concepts and ideas. Then teaching them to take the things they have learned and apply them to the world around them. All students regardless of race, religion, socio-economic standing, age or ability should receive the best education possible. It is our duty as a society to ensure that the students of today become the best possible people of tomorrow. |
My Promise to You
It is my promise to you that I will advocate for ensuring the best education for the students of Wallingford while being fiscally responsible and working to mitigate cost to the tax payers. I also promise to be open to all sides of an issue, do the research necessary to make an informed decision and always be available to you the parents, teachers and members of the community to ensure that your voices are heard.
